About Kitsap Farms

Kitsap Farms was founded in 2016 with a vision of growing fresh, local food while protecting the environment for future generations.

Owners Angela and Harold combine a passion for sustainable agriculture with innovative growing technologies to produce nutritious vegetables and salad greens for their community. What started as an aquaponic farm has grown into a diverse operation that incorporates both aquaponic and hydroponic systems, renewable energy, and resource-efficient farming practices.
‍
Today, Kitsap Farms continues to explore new ways to grow healthy food while minimizing environmental impact and supporting a more sustainable food system.

Sustainable Farming for the Future

At Kitsap Farms, sustainability isn't just a goal. It's the foundation of how we grow.

It's our mission to provide fresh, locally grown produce using environmentally responsible farming practices that conserve resources, reduce waste, and strengthen our community's connection to local agriculture.

Compost Heat Recovery

One of our most unique sustainability initiatives is our compost heat recovery system, which captures the natural heat generated during the composting process and uses it to help maintain water temperatures for our fish during colder months. Combined with solar power, this allows us to make use of renewable energy sources that support farm operations throughout the year.

Resource-Efficient

Our farm combines aquaponic and hydroponic growing systems with renewable energy and resource-efficient technologies to produce fresh, local food while minimizing environmental impact. By using innovative growing methods, solar energy, and a compost heat recovery system, we're able to conserve resources, reduce waste, and create a more sustainable approach to agriculture.

Growing with Nature and Innovation

Sustainable Aquaponic and Hydroponic Farming at Kitsap Farms

What is Hydroponics?

Growing Smarter with Water

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil by delivering nutrients directly to the roots through water. This allows plants to receive the precise balance of nutrients they need for healthy growth while using significantly less water than traditional farming.

Because the growing environment is carefully managed, hydroponics supports strong plant growth, consistent harvests, and year-round production. The system also reduces the need for large amounts of farmland and helps minimize nutrient runoff into the environment.

The result is an efficient, sustainable growing method that produces fresh, healthy food while conserving valuable natural resources.

At Kitsap Farms, hydroponics complements our aquaponic systems, allowing us to grow a wider variety of nutritious greens and vegetables while continuing our commitment to sustainability and responsible farming.

What is Aquaponics?

Nature's Perfect Partnership

Aquaponics combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants in water) into a closed-loop ecosystem.

Fish naturally produce nutrients that plants need to grow. Beneficial bacteria convert those nutrients into forms that plants can absorb. As plants use the nutrients, they help purify the water, which is then returned to the fish.

The result is a highly efficient and sustainable growing system that mimics natural ecosystems while producing fresh, healthy food.

At Kitsap Farms, aquaponics is one of the key ways we grow nutritious produce while minimizing waste and conserving resources.
